SOURSCING GIFTS

Our token gifts are sourced from local artisans and craftsmen from Africa. The explanations we give about them include information collected from the artist, from the middlemen and art dealers who market them and from our specialist knowledge in African Art. The method we use in presenting this information is structured in four social and cultural axes: firstly, the cultural meaning and significance of the material used to create the item, second, explanation on the patterns and symbolic imprints on the object, third, we situate the colour within the social and cultural context and fourth, we give a brief explanation of the item as a gendered object that has both aesthetic and identity connotations.
